Author Guidelines


The IJSL welcomes 15- to 20-page manuscripts (in APA the 7th format) both theoretical and research-based, as well as essays, interviews, film and book reviews, and shorter pieces. The journal is peer-reviewed by an exceptional international editorial board. Please submit a Microsoft Word copy of your article, with a one-paragraph bio as well as your name and address on the title page, through the submission portal on this website. All identifying information concerning author(s) should be restricted to the title page of the article. When sent to our international review board, author names will be removed for blind review. Except in cases of editor-invited manuscripts, submission of a manuscript to the IJSL implies the manuscript has not been published elsewhere, nor is it under consideration by another journal. Submission Preparation Checklist

  1. The submission has not been previously published, in part or in whole, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  2. All authors qualify as authors, as defined in the Authorship Guidelines, and have given permission to be listed on the submitted paper.
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  4. All funding statements and acknowledgements have been added to the manuscript.
  5. The corresponding author is submitting an ORCID identifier in their author data and co-authors have been recommended to also provide an ORCID, as per the journal policy.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

1. Authors agree to publish their work in open access. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There is no embargo on the journal’s publications.

2. The Author shall grant to the Publisher and its agents the nonexclusive perpetual right and license to publish, archive, and make accessible the Work in whole or in part in all forms of media now or hereafter known under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License or its equivalent, which, for the avoidance of doubt, allows others to copy, distribute, and transmit the Work under the following conditions:

Attribution—other users must attribute the Work in the manner specified by the author as indicated on the journal website;

with the understanding that the above condition can be waived with permission from the Author and that where the Work or any of its elements is in the public domain under applicable law, that status is in no way affected by the license.

3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (see The Effect of Open Access).

4. Authors warrant that:

a. The Author is the sole author of the Work, or all co-authors are identified in the Work as submitted for publication.

b. The Author has not transferred, and will not transfer, exclusive rights in the Work to any third party.

c. To the best of the Author’s knowledge, the Work does not infringe the copyright or other intellectual property or literary rights of another.

d. The Author will indemnify and hold the journal harmless against loss, damages, expenses, awards, and judgments arising from breach of any such warranties.

e. If either the Author or the journal determines for any reason that permission is required to include any third-party work, the Author will obtain written permission from the rightsholder.

f. The Work contains no libel, invasion of privacy, or other unlawful matter.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Publication Fees

The International Journal of Servant-Leadership is supported by the Gonzaga University School of Leadership Studies and Foley Library. The journal does not charge authors submission or publication fees.
